The Himdent Foundation marked a new chapter in its mission to provide accessible dental care with its first-ever dental camp in Himachal Pradesh. Held at J.H.S. Thanedhar from April 2-5, 2024, this camp was not only a milestone for the Smiling School Program but also a testament to the growing reach of Himdent’s dental outreach initiatives.
After a long journey from Dehradun on April 1, the dedicated team set up two fully operational stations at the school. Dr. Aditya Vohra kicked off the camp with an orientation lecture, introducing the students to the importance of dental hygiene and what to expect during their check-ups. The camp covered two schools—G.P.S Thanedhar and G.H.S. Thanedhar—where a total of 72 children were examined, resulting in an impressive 137 permanent fillings. This camp, co-organized and funded by the Satyanand Foundation, was further strengthened by the presence and support of Dr. Tanya Kumar, whose expertise and commitment added great value to the initiative.
The success of the camp was also made possible by the proactive support from the school’s staff, who ensured smooth operations throughout the four days. Their coordination and enthusiasm helped the Himdent team reach every child in need of treatment, despite the logistical challenges posed by working in such remote locations.
Expanding into Himachal Pradesh marks an exciting phase for the Himdent Foundation. While the challenges of operating in rural and mountainous regions persist—difficult access, long travel times, and infrastructure limitations—the passion to bring healthcare to underserved communities drives these efforts forward. Himachal Pradesh, like the neighboring regions of Uttarakhand, faces many barriers when it comes to basic healthcare access. Dental care, in particular, remains under-prioritized, making outreach programs like this essential for the well-being of the younger population.
As Himdent continues to grow its network and expand to new regions, this successful camp in Thanedhar is a reminder of the impact that can be made through collaboration and dedication.
