On September 8 and 9, 2023, Himdent Foundation organized a two-day free dental camp at Govt. High School Aamni Gusain Gaon in Devprayag Block as part of the Smiling School Program. The camp brought much-needed dental care to children in this remote area, located five hours from Dehradun.
Upon arrival, the team set to work without delay. Dr. Aditya Vohra began the camp with an engaging orientation lecture for the students, emphasizing the importance of dental hygiene and preventive care. Meanwhile, other members of the team efficiently set up the portable dental clinic.
The first day focused on examinations, with 25 children receiving thorough check-ups. On the second day, treatment was provided for those in need, with 24 permanent fillings completed for 19 children. The camp was hailed as a success, not only for the number of treatments completed but for the vital dental education delivered to the students.
After completing the treatments, the team packed up and returned to Dehradun, leaving behind a lasting impact on the school and its students.
The Power of Social Work in Rural Healthcare
This camp, like many others conducted by Himdent Foundation, demonstrates the profound importance of social work in rural healthcare. In regions like Devprayag, where access to basic healthcare services is often limited, social initiatives like the Smiling School Program are critical. They bring essential services directly to those who need them the most, empowering communities and fostering better health outcomes.
The success of this camp reflects the ongoing commitment of Himdent Foundation to improve dental care in underserved areas. Social work, especially in the field of healthcare, plays a crucial role in closing the gaps in access and providing care where it’s most needed.
